3 steps to enjoy food as a lover not just a friend…

Food Glorious Food, well sometimes it can feel that way, most of the time if you are attempting to lose weight it isn’t glorious it’s downright the bain of your existence. Am I right ladies????

 

So much information, so many opinions, so many ways to eat it, cook, and feel about it. I can finally say I’ve made my peace with food and love having an abundance of it in my life. Working with food to nourish, energise and vitalize my body has had its ups and downs.

 

The reason I share this with you is that it didn’t used to be this way. I didn’t used to feel so great about food at times in my life I felt it was the enemy, torturer and a power hungry ass wipe. Like being a one night stand taking me, sharing a lovely meal, bringing them back to your place and then waking up with the shame of putting another couple of kilos on, when you are thinking this time would be different. Whether you have had a one night stand or know someone who has, it feels really crappy to think this could be it and realising its not different.

 

On some level you know truly that it isn’t right yet why is it that you do it anyway, whether it is food you know isn’t great for you yet feels good in the moment or a guy who says and promises the world and ends up disappearing like Houdini.

 

So to help you with how you relate with food and change how you show up around food so you can have a happy union and partnership for life; here are 5 tips to enjoy whatever it is you crave and want to munch on for the rest of your days.

 

1. Treat yourself like your finest piece of jewelry

 

The problem is, most women expect food to be the answer in the moment they need connection, love and escape from feeling frustrated, bored, angry etc yet if you haven’t explored how to give this to yourself, love I mean, how can you expect the food you eat to give that to you? then get shitty when all it does is make you feel worst. The solution is to do something that you enjoy or makes you feel great when you look at it, that isn’t remotely related to food and see what happens.

 

2. What are you really craving? For real?

 

Is it love, sweetness of life, energy, connection or comfort? There is nothing wrong with cravings, we actually have cravings throughout the day for different reasons. The problem arises when the cravings come from a lack of something, lack of nutrients, love, comfort, passion, connection, rest, relaxation or nourishment. What is truly going on, that you feel you need the band-aid solution of comfort eating to numb, distract you or escape the moment. Here’s what to do instead, ask yourself before you reach for a comfort food; think about why you need comfort. This will give you enough time to pause and become aware of what it is you really need. Then go and give yourself that, if you still want to gobble the comfort food at least you know why you are doing it and next time may choose differently.

 

3. Party with the little wins

 

Come up with a quick meal plan of 7 healthy meals you have enjoyed in the last 1 year, if not when all else fails google it. That in itself is something to celebrate that you know where to access the info that you need to be healthy. It is a little win, may be a tad miniscule in your world or huge in someone else’s, yet a win nonetheless. The problem is, that as a woman you may have very high standards and expectations of yourself. The solution is to do some celebrating like you are winning at your relationship with food will help you immensely.
