Being comfortable with being uncomfortable (in your skin)

Being comfortable with being uncomfortable (in your skin)

You in the past may have had many moments of feeling uncomfortable in your skin or in a situation and felt frustrated, annoyed or wanting to escape. Alternatively there have been moments you were totally ok with being uncomfortable. What is the difference between those two situations?

How comfortable you were with being uncomfortable.

The problem is most women associate feeling uncomfortable with being unhappy, uneasy and that something must be wrong. You want to numb, avoid, escape or distract yourself from this uneasiness.

However, how to handle the uneasy feelings is the first step to using this to your advantage in relation to having the body, health and life you want. The truest barometer for what is working and what isn’t working are your feelings. Whether you are being conscious or letting old thinking or feeling patterns (that don’t serve you) play out, your feelings are continually giving you feedback.

When you are triggered into a reactive or defensive mode from a situation (being unconscious) this colours how you view the world and whether you enjoy it or loathe it; your outfit is too tight that used to fit, or you don’t exercise when you should, or you had that chocolate bar at 3pm instead of a healthy snack, and then you feel bad.

Feeling great and knowing what assists you to feel great, even if it may be uncomfortable in the moment is important to being who you want and having the results you deserve in your body and life. I have committed to exercising 5-6 days a week as part of a fitness program and 99% of the time I don’t feel like doing it.

Let me repeat that. 99% of the time I don’t feel like going.

In those moments where you are in a situation that is uncomfortable ask yourself, is this going to serve my highest good? If it is, do it, if it isn’t do, something else.

The reason I share this with you, is being uncomfortable lovingly, not wanting to do something that you know is in your best interests, can actually be the best thing for you. Sometimes feeling like changing and doing the unfamiliar is uncomfortable. As humans we are wired to resist change. Yet In order to grow and expand, leaning into the edge of the comfort zone and moving through creates the new reality you want; whether its exercising to lose weight when you’d rather sit on the couch, wanting a bucket of KFC, yet choosing a healthy dinner, or moving on from a relationship you know isn’t good for you when all you want to do is stay creates an environment and life for you to love yourself and your body the way it needs.

So the solution is to make the next step so easy you’ll do it, so for the fitness program I’m doing, the next step is getting myself there. That’s it. When I arrive momentum takes over. Being comfortable with you and your body is totally different to being uncomfortable with something that is going to stretch you and get you the outcomes, or results you actually want.

So what can you be comfortable with that was uncomfortable previously, what is the next step, then do it.
