Lighten your load (literally) with play

When was the last time you actually played, I mean really played, let your hair down, laughed so hard you almost peed, danced up a storm, dressed up and felt incredibly juicy? If you have had to think about it too long, then it has been too long. Play and having fun is definitely underrated in today’s modern world. With devices, technology and social media galore it is quite a challenge to pop down the smart phone, turn off the television and go out for a night, morning or afternoon of laughs, fun and play.

How do you incorporate more play into your life you ask, it is already so busy, serious and full of responsibilities.

The thing about play is it is a way of being, light heartedness and seeing the funny side to all situations, finding the humour in what could probably be a boring or mundane situation.

Now you may be asking what does this have to do with health, weight loss or body confidence. Well there has been multiple research that demonstrates laughing, having fun and feeling great all contribute to reduced stress, transforming negative emotions and promoting healthier choices.

When you are having fun, truly in moments of laughter to the point of hysterics, with friends or family members that you enjoy your company.

What has this got to do with weight loss or wellness you may ask? Let me illustrate with a story. A client was stressed by something you may heard of deadline, oh yes the dreaded deadline that secretly creeps up on you giving you a false sense of security until it whams the “you only have 7 days, hours or minutes left, better crack on”, and I was already really undernourished, triggered and had little to no buffer for any “unexpected curve balls” thrown in by life. Well before she knew it she had become very fiery and not in a good way at my hubby and daughter, lost it and was travelling in reactive (unconscious) mode, by the time she came out of it, the storm had left its trail. She was reaching for the food and emotionally eating to soothe herself.

Fast forward to today laughing and enjoying situations more she realised that using humour taking life playfully, seeing the humour in peak hour traffic, or the joy in her daughter wetting her clothes for the third time before leaving the home for the morning gave her the ability to have a buffer that she needed that if challenging situations in life come up and they will that she was able to stare them in the face and laugh.
