Grief can help you be comfortable in your skin

Grief can help you be comfortable in your skin

Grief is a fascinating word, when you explore the definition, it is intense sorrow especially caused by someone’s death. Yet the word is synonymous with; heartbreak, sadness, despair, suffering.

I did a grief ritual this week, to release grief out of my body. My intention with this ritual was to become free to relax and be more comfortable in my skin. The reason I share this with you, is because grief can come in many forms; the ending of a relationship, transitioning to a different life stage, a change in identity, rebirth of a new self or even as simple as moving house.
There are endings and beginnings, death and rebirth in every aspect of life. One door opens another door closes. The problem is that most women are not in touch with the grieving and loss of what is happening in that moment. There is no blame to place here it is simply a fact that we are not taught how to grieve healthily, it is not part of our culture apart from when someone dies. Also the media biased expectations illustrate a world with little understanding of grief in its varying forms.

So when it comes to feeling comfortable in your skin and body confident if there is residual grief, it will be held in your body, and may be holding you back from doing or being you. This grief may limit your ability to expres
s yourself without you even realising or knowing it.

There are many ways to release grief and I invite you to come up with your own grief ritual. However I have practiced several and include below a five step process to support your journey into releasing residual grief. Some find that drawing feelings with the intent of releasing grief, or painting or journaling can work. Each symbolic act may work for you at different times, so use what resonates with you;

  1. Find a space to do this where you will be undisturbed or undistracted
  2. Choose a symbolic act for the ritual i.e. drawing, painting, moving, journaling
  3. Set the intent for the grief ritual e.g. My intention is to release and let go of my grief around …
  4. Do the ritual for a set period of time
  5. Release what has been created, offer it up to the Divine and use water as a means to wash it away.
  6. Offer appreciation and thanks to the Divine and yourself, for letting go and ask for what you’d like more of instead

I wish you well on your journey to learning how to release grief in a kind and gentle way. If you have any questions or good news stories, comment below or click here to contact me, I would love to hear from you.
